Facilities

In the decades since the move to its present site Kilkenny College has undertaken a series of development projects which have resulted in an enviable campus with facilities among the best in Ireland.

Major developments have been the completion of Yates House, a wonderful boarding facility for senior girls and the opening of the Jonathan Swift Building. This state of the art building is a self-contained school in itself. It contains 11 general classrooms, 2 Science laboratories, a drawing room, staff room and staff study equipped to the highest standards. There is also a large social area and the chaplain’s office. The I.T. facilities here are updated annually. In addition to specialist computer rooms, all classrooms are equipped with data projectors. We use MS Office 365 for offsite interactive learning and the VSWare system for record management.

Butler House, the junior and intermediate boys’ boarding house has been completely refurbished to provide contemporary accommodation for one hundred and sixty boys. A revamp of the College Library took place in 2022. The College Chapel was opened shortly after.

Thank You

The Board of Directors is most grateful for the donations from parents and other benefactors who have provided funding for almost half of the cost of these projects. Our trustee the Incorporated Society and the Department of Education and Skills have also given vital assistance. The present and future generations of pupils will benefit from this generosity.

The Kilkenny College Foundation has been established to secure funding for the continuing development needs of the college. The Directors have also formed a Strategy Group, representative of the various partners in education to plan for our future. It has a broad remit to report on all aspects of the college.

The Development Plan includes:
