‘15 Third Level Scholarships and national awards for members of the Leaving Certificate Class of 2016 at Kilkenny College.’

The achievements of significant numbers of students from the Leaving Certificate Class of 2016 have been recognised by a variety of third level institutions and associations in recent weeks.

Three Entrance Scholarships were awarded by Trinity College Dublin to members of the class of 2016 on the 22nd November.  Sarah Morrow, Castlecomer Road and Daire Pryal, Holdensrath, two of the recipients, both achieved 625 CAO points in the Leaving Certificate 2016. Both Sarah and Daire are now studying Medicine. Sophie Cairns, who attained 605 CAO points is now studying Engineering.

TY Business class are currently half way through their share trading game which started in September. Players started with $100,000 and can make trades online at any time. In a fluctuating market Students are finding it a lot harder than last year to show good returns, a cooling of some of the more fashionable Technology stocks which are always popular with the students has seen returns well down on last year. Those students with a varied portfolio have performed well with David O’Brien leading the way with a very healthy €2,558 profit in current circumstances. Mr. Ashmore is making up for last years bottom of the table finish with a credible 2nd place, closely followed by Daniel Thompson only €28 behind in 3rd place. The rest of the top 5 is made up of Jack Foley and Susan James. The competition runs until the end of this term with many twists and turns to come. Bhailigh na daltaí airgead do Chonradh na Gaeilge,  eagraíocht  a chuireann an Ghaeilge chun cinn. Tugadh an t-airgead breise do charthanachtaí áitiúla. Comhghairdeas do na daltaí agus a muinteoiri a bhí páirteach. Bhí na tithe chónaithe geall le tithe Gaeltachta! Beatha teanga í a labhairt. 

More than 240 Kilkenny college students from all year groups completed the 'Speak Irish for a day' challenge on Tuesday 15th November. The students collected money for the Irish language organisation 'Conradh na Gaeilge' who endeavour to promote the Irish language. Extra money that was collected were given to local charities. Congratulations to the students along with their teachers who participated. The boarding houses were like houses in the Gaeltacht for the day! The life of a language is to speak the language!
