January 2009 A very successful day recently at the Leinster Senior Schools' Championships at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin. Kilkenny College was represented by Edward and Christine Healy and Catherine Costigan. Edward took bronze in the 100 free, Catherine took silver in the 100 back and 5th pl in the 100 free, and Christine took gold in the 100 fly and 4th pl in the 200 im. SEPTEMBER 2008 Representing their schools in the UK in the schools' games in Bristol and Bath, this weekend is Christine Healy for the Irish schools and Kilkenny College. She will swim fly. Shani Stallard will represent the Irish schools and the Presentation Secondary School, and will swim breast stroke. .............................. May 2008 The Irish long course championships took place at the national Aquatic centre Dublin, the competition was run over 4 days Friday to Monday. It was a qualifying meet for the Beijing Olympics so we witnessed some spectacular swimming and there were alot of records ...................... February Congratulations to Catherine Costigan who won a gold and bronze medals at the National Life Saving Championships in Limerick recently. 3 Kilkenny College students and members of Kilkenny Swimming Club spent the second weekend of February at the Edinburgh International Gala. Tommy Bergin swam on the Irish team, and helped Ireland win the event overall ..... The irish schools championships took place in Galway weekend 3rd/4thy February, Kiri Fisher represented Kilkenny College, Kiri took bronze in the 100 backstroke and silver in the 100 free style,as a result of taking silver in the 100 free she now goes forward to the WISE international schools competition which will be held in england in March, where she will represent Ireland. The Leinster Schools swimming championships took place recently in the National Aquatic Centre Dublin, Kilkenny College were well represented in the medals.......... Leinster Division 1 took place recently in the National Aquatic Centre Dublin. 5 Kilkenny College students took part as part of the Kilkenny Swimming Club team, and they did exceptionally well. Tommy Bergin took gold in the 100 fly and 400 im, he took silver in 200 fly, 100 breast and 200im and was 1st reserve in 100 fly. Edward Healy took silver in 200im and 400 free, bronze in 200 free, 100 back and 100 fly, 5th pl in 100 breast, and 6th in 100 free. Edward was also awarded a trophy for 3rd overall in his age group. Catherine Costigan took silver in 800 free, Bronze in 200 back, and 4th in 100 back, 200 free, 400 free. Kiri Fisher took gold in 100 back and 200 back, silver in 100 free, she was1st reserve in 100 breast and took 8th pl in 100 fly. Christine Healy took gold in 200 fly, 100 fly, 100 breast, 200 free and 200 im, she took silver in 400 free and 6th pl in 100 free. Christine was awarded a trophy for 2nd overall in her age group. ------------------------------ Two kilkenny College Students have made 2012 swimming team,Christine Healy the Junior European Championships and the British age groups, he also broke the junior record in his 400im swim, both Christine and Tommy will travel to Portugal in June with the Irish team to compete in the 5th international swimming meet of the city of Loule. Tommy has also qualified for the 2012 Development Team and along with 7 other swimmers to swim in the European Junior Champioships in Antwerp in July. He has broken the Junior Irish record recently in the 400 metres individual medley in a time of 4 minutes 33.22 secs. Killkenny colleges 5 swimmers travelled to limerick last weekend for the Tommy Bergin took gold in the 200fly,200 breast stroke,100m fly and 4th place in 100 breast stroke. Edward Healy took bronze in 400 free, he took 5th place in the 200 free final, 7th place in the 100 fly final, 8th place in 200im and he was 2nd reserve in 100 back stroke. Kiri Fisher took gold in 100 back stroke, 50m free style, 50m back stroke, she was 4th in the 50m breast stroke and 50 fly.and 8th place in 200 im. Catherine Costigan took silver in 50m back stroke, she was 7th in the 400 free and took 8th place in 100m back stroke. Christine Healy took silver in 200 free, she took 4th place in 100 breast stroke final, 5th place in 200im adn 100 fly final and was 6th in the 400 free style. Both Christine and Kiri were part of the 14 to 15 free style and medley relay which won gold in both events, and Catherine was on both the free style and medley relay in the senior section and they took bronze in both. Tommy and Edward were part of the medley and free relay in the mens section, and Tommy was on the cannon relay which took bronze. This was a great result for all of the swimmers as they were swimming in open events. ========================================================== The Irish Schools Swimming Championships took place in the Grove Pool in Belfast on Friday and Sat last, Kilkenny College Swimmers did really well,Tommy Bergin took gold in the 100 fly final, silver in 100 breast stroke final and he also won the 200 fly swim which was by invitation.
Both Kiri and Tommy have been offered a place on the Irish Schools Swim Team to represent Ireland in the Wise International Gala which will take place on 10th of March next in n.a.c Abbottstown Dublin.

Tommy Bergin (Senior) - Gold 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke Kiri Fisher (Junior), Gold 100 Freestyle, and 100 Backstroke. Christine Healy (Junior), Gold 100 Butterfly, Silver 100 Breaststroke Edward Healy (Intermediate), Bronze 200 IM, 6th place 100 Butterfly Catherine Costigan (Intermediate), 7th place 100 Butterfly. All of the above swimmers have qualified to go forward to the Irish Schools Championships, which will take part in the Grove Pool, Belfast on the 2nd - 3rd February. ========================================
Each Christmas Term all first years are given the use of the local municipal swimming pool every Tuesday afternoon, where College staff instructors ensure that all first years know how to swim and are water safe by Christmas. More and more young people now know how to swim even before they reach secondary school, such has been the work done by the water safety organisations throughout our island over the last twenty year. Kilkenny College swimmers recently took part in the David Page Memorial Gala hosted by Cormorant Swimming Club in Dunnameade, Dublin – this weekend. Christine Healy stole the show winning Gold in the 200 Fly, 200 Breast, 200 Free and 400 IM and Bronze in the 200 Back. Kiri Fisher took Silver in 200 Free and 200 Back. Catherine Costigan took 4th place in the 200 Fly Final. Edward Healy took Bronze in 200 Back, 5th place in the Fly Final and was 1st reserve in 200 Free and 200 Breast Stroke. Well done also to Tommy Bergin who came home from Luxembourg with the Irish Team, he had some great swims and performed well. |
