The annual Musical Evening took place on Wednesday 26th May with its wonderful array of singers and musicians - not too mention a surprise guest at the finale!

In front of a large audience of parents and pupils in the Sports Hall Forms 2, 3, 5 & 6 and choirs gave of their talent in song and playing with everything from Gershin to Garfunkel and from Handel to Head!

Proceeds from the night went towards "The Filds of Life School and Sanyu Home, Kampala, Uganda and the Lesotho Orphanage playground project.

The evening was organised by Mr Milne, Ms Mahoney and the the Music Dept.

The ANNUAL MUSICAL EVENING PRESENTED BY THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT
will take place on WEDNESDAY 26th MAY 2010 at 7:30 pm sharp
We invite pupils, families and friends to come and hear performances by the Senior and Junior Choirs, the Chamber Choir, the Orchestra, Jazz Band and music students in forms VI, V. III and II.
Refreshments will be available in the dining hall from 6.45 pm
There is no charge for admission, but there will be an opportunity to contribute to
THE FIELDS OF LIFE SCHOOL and SANYU HOME, Kampala, Uganda, and
THE LESOTHO ORPHANAGE PLAYGROUND PROJECT

Chamber Choir sings with Guinness Choir PDF Print E-mail

The College Chamber Choir joined the Guinness Choir and the Ulster Orchestra for its major Spring Concert in Mount Argus Church, Harold's Cross, Dublin on Sunday 16th May.  The previous day they travelled to Belfast to rehearse.

At the Concert the Chamber Choir performed the semi-chorus in Gustav Holst's "Hymn of Jesus" and also sang in Herbert Howell's "Hymnus Paradisi".

The Chamber Choir's next appointment is with the Kilkenny Choir on Sunday 23rd in St Canice's Catherdal when they will join with the Kilkenny Choir for a performance of Mendelssohn's "Elijah"

 
Inter-Schools' Music Festival Wesley College 2010 PDF Print E-mail

RESULTS FROM THE INTER-SCHOOLS’ MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010:

Almost 300 pupils travelled to Wesley College, Dublin to participate in the Inter-schools’ Musicwcdmus0 Festival on Friday 5th & Saturday 6th. The senior choir, the chamber choir, the senior girls’ choir, the boys’ choir, the junior choir, the orchestra, the senior jazz band, a rock band and 114 individual entries. The school was very well represented in the programme and our participation and support for the event   was remarked on by many. All performers did well and are to be congratulated. The following received special mention:

Chamber Choir Wows Waterford! PDF Print E-mail

Last night in Christ Church Cathedral Waterford was host to the wonderful sound of young voices and instrumentalists as the Kilkenny College Chamber Choir along with soloists Evelyn Johnston and Karen Bolger and with classical guitarist Jennifer Hartrey gave of their talent to the large audience gathered in the cathedral. The three soloists were singing as part of their final year assessment with W.I.T. in Waterford as they work towards their music degrees.

cc6The Concert was also under the organisation of the Diocesan Mothers’ Union and was introduced by Diocesan President Phyllis Grothier and MU Trustee Elizabeth Johnston. The Mothers’ Union also organised the interval refreshments which included tea/coffee and homemade muffins.

The Chamber Choir opened each half of the concert and began with the Santus and Benedictus from Karl Jenkins “The Armed Man”. They also sang “Gloria in excelsis Deo”by Robert Cooper and “Ave Verum Corpus” by William Byrd. In the second half the Choir sang Mendelssohn, Marchant, Tavener and concluded with Chilcott’s “A little Jazz Mass”.

Sang from Mozart’s “Cosi Fan Tutte” and Barber’s “The Crucifixion” and “St Ita’s Vision”.

Karen Bolger sang from Mozart, Schumann, Head and concluded with “Dido’s Lament” from Purcell.

Jennifer Hartrey showed her skill and dexterity on the guitar with works by Dowland, Mangoré, Koshkin and York.
